Harry’s has got it goin’ on! Long overdue for some love on the blog, our little pizzeria that could is getting noticed nationally for its pies and turning out some killer new food and drink outside of the pizza box, both on its regular menu and at Sunday’s new brunch.   Here’s what you need to know:

chefpopslogowharrysAy, que rico!  With April Bloomfield’s sold out dinner next week, our eyes turn to March’s event with Bill Telepan, and the rest of the season of chef pop-ups that Michael has so expertly lined-up. New to the list as of this week?  Seamus Mullen, New York chef and owner of Tertulia, will channel northern spain at Harry’s this season. We’re working on hammering down the month for his event and are really excited about this one.  Also, Joey Campanaro and Mikey Price’s Quality Clam Pizzeria date is now set for Tuesday, April 23.  Boom!

photo-160New on Harry’s menu this week in the beverage department are Victory Brewery (PA) Golden Monkey Tripel (respect the monkey!,)  Cigar City (FL) Hotter than Helles Lager which I am particularly loving for its grassy hue and crispy, toasty finish, as well as a vintage change (2011) on the Coppola Votre Santé Pinot  Noir (CA.)  The Genuine Hospitality Group Wine Director Eric Larkee would, however, have you chart a course first to the whites, specifically a Pinot Bianco blend which isn’t new new, but very delicious delicious: “The Vallarom. It’s a super fresh blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling from Northeast Italy near the Dolomite mountains.”

One of our favorite things about Harry’s menu is that some of the best stuff happens on its chalkboard… These daily specials blaze in with a fury, emblazoned on the restaurant’s Tumblr and Instagram, and then poof they are gone in a flash!  So when printed changes happen every now and again, it’s almost a welcomed relief, like the new salad hitting today: Florida Starfruit and Cucumber with arugula, crunchy poblano pepper, and pistachios, all tossed in a bright and savory apple cider vinaigrette with shaved manchego cheese on top. It reads a little out in left field, but trust me… you might have a new favorite salad to enjoy, say, with the Vallarom!  Sous Chef Steve Martin, fresh from Michael’s Genuine down the street and an inspirational stage with past pop-up chef Jonathon Sawyer, is also helping our casual neighborhood joint kitchen and its front-of-house staff get educated on our local farms and how salads like this one come to be so fresh and seasonal.  Now that’s something worth toasting! TGIF.

Beer, Glorious Beer! Our List Updates, What’s New in Home Brew Land & We Tap 42 for South Florida Beer Week

Winter in South Florida usually guarantees a dip in temperature, but it’s always a bit of a roller coaster. This one is as unpredictable and warm as any we can remember!  As we coast through the soft and cuddly middle of South Florida Beer Week, let’s take a moment to geek out with Beverage Director Ryan Goodspeed and hear what’s new and drinking great in this fickle fantastic weather on our restaurant beer lists and across our great beer-loving community. Cheers!

photo-143Beginning today at MGFD, Brewery Dupont Saison makes a return to menus after going out of stock for a month. Goodspeed says it’s considered by many to be the best Farmhouse Ale out of Belgium, with subtle spice and fruity aroma that makes it the perfect beer for, say, a relaxing, late afternoon lunch? It is fermented in the bottle at a slightly higher temperature resulting in a highly carbonated, light and refreshing flavor and finish.  Stone Ruination India Pale Ale, now available in 12 oz bottles from the award-winning brewery most famous for its Arrogant Bastard will satisfy the growing legion of hop heads around town.

Beyond Breakfast Pizza at Harry’s New Weekly Sunday Brunch, Beginning January 6!

NEW FINAL Brunch MenuHarry's Check Presenter Design-1.1IMG_1235Don’t worry, we got plenty of Lake Meadow Naturals farm eggs to go around, but when Harry’s first regular Sunday Brunch service begins at 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on January 6, its printed menu will feature a section of six new dishes that are anything but inside the pizza box.  Breakfast Pizzas will change weekly, written on the specials chalkboard, for those of us who love a little egg schmear on the pie.  Don’t know who doesn’t!

“Sundays are a time for sharing with family and friends, so the brunch menu is about having a little more fun and adding some different things for people to try,” says Harry’s Pizzeria chef de cuisine Manny Sulbaran.  ”I was also inspired by some of the things I liked to eat when I was young in Venezuela, like rice and beans, and Golfeados — or sticky buns.  At Harry’s we’ll use piloncillo, the hard, first sugar from the sugarcane, to make the glaze, and will top them with fresh cheese. A little sweet and savory.”

Beer Brunches celebrating the Drink Like a Local initiative got the ball rolling for the new weekly service in September, with local chefs cooking brunch at Harry’s one Sunday a month, served with their favorite Florida beers.  Now we can’t wait to try all of Manny’s creations and toast with a Michael’s Genuine Home Brew (and maybe even more beverages Eric & Ryan?!)  See you a week from this Sunday!
