The White House executive chef Cris Comerford and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board have invited Michael, Michelle Bernstein (Michy’s, Sra. Martinez,) and Peter Vauthy (Red the Steakhouse) to participate in Chefs Ashore from Sunday, September 12 to Tuesday, September 14. They will join more of the country’s most prominent chefs for (1) a briefing from FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg on the government’s efforts to certify that Gulf seafood is safe to eat, (2) time on the water to see a re-opened area firsthand, and to see gulf seafood at its source, and (3) a philanthropic event – a ‘block party’, where chefs will cook Gulf seafood dishes for fishermen and other residents who have returned to an area formerly devastated by Katrina and has since been rebuilt by volunteers.

We hear the Miami crew will be paired with host chef Chris Lusk, of the famous Brennan family’s Cafe Adelaide, who will show them how prepare a block party dish Commander’s Palace-style.

Michael occasionally sources snapper and shrimp from Florida’s west coast waters and is looking forward to checking in with the experts on which Gulf seafood safe, high quality, and available for us at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink.

Congratulations Chefs!
