As we place our first order for copies of Baking Out Loud at MGFD and Harry’s to prepare for its October 2 release (just three weeks from today!), we thought you might want to check out where you can find Hedy Goldsmith previewing her first cookbook this month! From east coast to west, Hedy is bringing her unique sweetness to a city near you. For those of you who can’t wait to get your hands on a copy to call your own, the generous folks at Serious Eats are giving away five this week as they “Bake the Book.” Just write what dessert you think has the biggest, boldest flavor in the comments section here. See you on the road!
Tuesday, 9/18 – MIAMI – Chefs for Obama at the Moore Building in the Design District. Hedy’s doing Fluffer-Nutter Brownies with homemade marshmallows toasted to order (and Harry’s will represent with Manny’s Meatball Sliders!) While we’re not so quick to hand out our recipe, I hear the Home Brew will also be flowing… Cheers to POTUS!
Friday 9/21 – Sunday 9/23 – PORTLAND – Hedy is participating in FEAST Portland, a celebration of Oregon bounty presented by Bon Appetite! The Dinner Series event at Lincoln with April Bloomfield and Jenn Louis on Friday is sold out, but tickets are still available for High Comfort on Saturday with heavy local and national hitters at Hedy’s side including Philippe Boulot of MAC Club (PDX) Elias Cairo of Olympic Provisions (PDX,) Marco Canora of Hearth Restaurant (NYC,) Dustin Clark of Wildwood Restaurant (PDX,) Chris Cosentino of Boccalone (SF,) Greg Denton of Ox (PDX,) Brad Farmerie of PUBLIC (NYC,) Eric Finley of CHOP Butchery (PDX,) Paul Kahan of Blackbird (Chicago,) and more. Best spot for the inside scoop including what she’s making with MGFD pastry’s Tiffany Rawson is a post on Hedy’s blog here!
Wednesday 9/26 – Thursday 9/27 – LOS ANGELES – Amazingly talented and deliciously sweet LA chef Suzanne Goin has generously offered to host Baking Out Loud cookbook events at Lucques restaurant (9/26) and Tavern restaurant (9/27) two of the four restaurants she owns and operates in the Los Angeles area. As an award winning chef, she was named as one of Food & Wine Magazine’s “best new chefs of 1999” and received the James Beard Award for Best Chef: California in 2006. Click here for all the details!
Saturday 9/29 – LOS ANGELES – Hedy participates for the second year, this time also with Michael making the trip, in LA Loves Alex’s Lemonade, an event hosted by Suzanne Goin to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand charity to find a cure for childhood cancer. With a long history of chef support pioneered by Marc Vetri in Philadelphia, Alex’s is a cause the Genuine Team knows well and this won’t be the last time you’ll find us supporting it in many cities across the country, including New York… and our own in Miami to be announced soon! Click here for what’s planned for LA. Hedy’s serving her classic Pop Tarts with, you guessed it, lemonade filling, while Michael and chef de cuisine Bradley Heron are doing my personal favorite MGFD snack, Falafel with Tahini Sauce. Cue the applause!
