Hedy’s Baking Out Loud October Event Schedule (Part I!)

Baking Out Loud is coming to a mailbox or bookstore near you one week from today, Tuesday October 2.  Following up on our post for Hedy’s September events, it’s time to get next month’s tour online.  Here is where you can find our executive pastry chef in Miami and other cities across our great nation promoting her new cookbook in the first half  of October – the whole month is a lot for even us to digest!  For tickets and the menus, see below and mark your calendars.  And stay tuned for part II in the weeks to follow…

Tuesday, 10/2 – NEW YORK CITY  Things get started in a big way in the Big Apple with one of our favorite culinary talents, chef Marcus Samuelsson, and a collaborative, dessert-heavy dinner with Hedy at his celebrated Harlem restaurant, Red Rooster.   Tickets are now live online here for the 3-course tasting menu, $95 (or $125 with wine pairings,) which includes tax, gratuity and a signed copy of Hedy’s book.

Sunday, 10/7  MIAMI  Books & Books Coral Gables hosts Hedy for a signing and Q&A with Lydia Martin of the Miami Herald.  Warm up to the talk with Hedy’s favorite spirit, bourbon, in a complimentary welcome cocktail care of beverage director Ryan Goodspeed: The Old Pal.  Afterward, head to the courtyard to make your own panini, a favorite recipe from the book. Friday, 10/12 – Sunday, 10/14  – NEW YORK CITY  Hedy is at the New York City Wine & Food Festival for the third year, this time at SWEET where she’ll serve Bittersweet Chocolate Cake with Curry, Coconut & Cardamom with Cherry Chutney and Spiced Cashew Brittle, and then with another one of our favorite chefs, who happens to have a flare for one of our favorite meals: brunch!  Gabrielle Hamilton is hosting the Whimsical Indulgence Brunch, which sounds rather swanky, and has a menu to back it up!  Prune’s chicago matchbox bloody mary with a beer back will go down easy, served with a lower east side appetizing plate with smoked fish, rye crackers and condiments, and followed by Butter-crumbed egg with spicy stewed chickpeas, parsley leaves and preserved lemons.  Hedy’s sweet contribution? Pop tarts, ricotta pancakes, candied bacon, chocolate salted caramel panna cotta, biscotti, gelees, marcona almond brittle, black pepper sablee, and candied grapefruit! OMG!

Tuesday, 10/16 – PHILADELPHIA  Chefs Marc Vetri and Jeff Michaud welcome Hedy to Osteria for a cookbook dinner in her hometown!  For $125 per person, enjoy an Italian evening that’s the next best thing to flying to dine in the mother country herself.  The menu starts with hors d’oeuvres of Stuzzichini Baccala mantecato with fried polenta; Ciabatta crostone with fontina fonduta, charred peppers and chestnut honey; and Fried cauliflower with bagna cauda, followed by Capon-stuffed cabbage “nosec” with marinated root vegetables; Porcini and potato cialzon with braised rabbit; Grilled swordfish with braised tuscan kale and corona bean crema; and finally Hedy’s desserts including Tangerine Creamsicle Pots de Crème, Blackberry-Tarragon Jam and Mini Buttermilk Doughnuts; Chocolate Bourbon Fudge Tart, Chocolate, Cherries + Chipotle Ice Cream; and Family Style Cookies, Candies and Confections including Anise Almond Biscotti, Overstuffed Nutters, Popcorn + Peanut Bark, Overstuffed O’s, and Junk in da Trunk.
