This time last year, Michael and Wellness in the Schools partnered with Broward County Food & Nutrition Services to introduce his Kale Pizza to the cafeteria, engaging its cooks in 10 Broward schools to train on the recipe and other new scratch-cooked dishes. With Kale Pizza set to officially launch on the line on December 3 (YES!), we are celebrating with activities to support the cause on Give Miami Day, Thursday, November 15, the largest city-wide annual day of fundraising. Genuine Pizza will host students from McNicol Middle Magnet & STEM School in Hollywood for a pizza-making class. Flagship Michael’s Genuine® Food & Drink will also feature the Kale Pizza all day as a lunch and dinner special, with proceeds donated to Wellness in the Schools.

“When giving back tastes good too you know you’re doing something right and Wellness in the Schools has nailed the formula!” says Chef Schwartz. “We have so much fun working with the team locally and our Wellness in the Schools chef Leonor Azpurua. Seeing actual progress happen is not only rewarding but inspiring for me and my team at The Genuine Hospitality Group. The hard work is happening in cafeterias on a daily basis, so the little bit we can do to reach the kids by getting their hands doughy in our classroom makes it all worth it!”
Kale Pizza has been a longtime popular menu item at Harry’s Pizzeria, our original South Florida pizza joint and is now enjoyed daily at all five locations including Genuine Pizza in Aventura and Atlanta. As Miami readies for the main growing season to arrive with local farms reaping calabaza and squash of all shapes and sizes still ripe from summer, we also sew the seeds for the harvest to come. SEASONAL PIZZA | We are sweet on savory Pumpkin Pie ($14) featuring layers of pumpkin both purée and freshly roasted, cipollini onions, kale, and auribela & mozzarella cheeses. It’s a well-balanced bite, packed with fall flavor and vegetarian. We also like adding Niman Ranch bacon, for that crispy, salty, porky bite that gets extra happy with this toppings combination. SEASONAL SALAD | Our surprising mix of ingredients just works in a salad — as much as it wows! As Michael notes in the manuscript of his forthcoming cookbook Genuine Pizza (May 2019 release), Warm Brussels Sprouts & Burrata Cheese with sliced pears, pistachios, torn herbs, creamy parmigiano dressing ($13) is decadent, satisfying, and filling, and the variety of textures and temperatures checks all the boxes. Sweet, juicy pear lightens and brightens the warm roasted sprouts, which are a nice contrast against the cool burrata. Finishing this salad with pistachios bring just the right amount of crunch to the soft, yielding ingredients. It’s a keeper.

Start spreading the news. Miami will have what the Big Apple is having… AGAIN! Back by popular demand, the Katz’s Pastrami Pizza on Rye Crust that Michael conceived last summer will be available at all four South Florida pizzerias and new Atlanta location beginning Monday, September 17 until Sunday, September 30. Chef and Katz’s Delicatessen owner Jake Dell connected on a recent trip to NYC and hatched a plan to give the people what they want for the second year in a row. We are positively verklempt — especially our pizza cooks who couldn’t get enough of this specialty inspired the icon’s famous sandwich the first go around.

“The original Lower East Side location is an obligatory stop on every visit,” Michael says. “Katz’s pastrami on rye sandwich is legendary — and one my all time favorites. I have to pinch myself that it’s going to be back in our pizza ovens!”
