Introducing Tigertail + Mary: Lush Neighborhood Retreat for Relaxed American Cooking Opens May 2019 in Coconut Grove

Coming Soon: An oasis devoted to vegetable-forward food and the easy village lifestyle of Miami’s oldest bohemian neighborhood on Biscayne Bay

Since announcing the project some four years ago with Park Grove co-developers Terra and Related Group, we are excited to share today the details on our newest restaurant, coming to Coconut Grove in May — Tigertail + Mary!  Following Harry’s Pizzeria’s successful 2015 debut, Chef’s second in Miami’s oldest village on Biscayne Bay is a lush neighborhood retreat for fresh, vegetable-forward American cooking, inspired by the Grove’s one-of-a-kind bohemian lifestyle, easy energy, and textured tropical landscape. For Michael, good food begins with great product, and here the menu will celebrate this notion’s ultimate expression – vegetables – as well as other fresh, thoughtfully-sourced proteins, like local seafood and meat from animals raised with care.  To get to know the restaurant and the neighborhood as opening approaches, follow @tigertailandmary on Instagram, Facebook and visit our new landing page at tigertailandmary.com.

Patio! Landscaping hasn’t fully begun but we have designs on one of our favorite Miami backyard and front lawn treasures — mango trees!

“Coconut Grove feels good I think because it doesn’t try too hard to be something. It is consistently, 100 percent itself, full of good energy and honesty. Food should be this way, too,” he explains. “We’ve always embraced this notion as a restaurant group, and as we’ve grown, it has become an extremely important lens that defines our Genuine approach in each new space we inhabit. For us it’s about food that is unhindered in its sincerity to the ingredient and the way we want guests to feel welcome when they join us. Being in the Grove in many ways reminds us of what we aspire to be, and creating this restaurant and the dining experience has been an affirmation of our commitment to know ourselves better and be who we are. We’re having fun making good food and making a place our neighbors can feel good calling home.”

Tigertail + Mary’s space and design by longtime Schwartz-collaborators Grove-based Arquitectonica and Meyer Davis Studio (NYC) is informed by its natural surroundings, embedded at the intersection the North Grove’s two main streets and fronted by a new corner park next to Terra and Related Group’s Park Grove entrance. The restaurant offers seating for 120, including bar, main dining room, private dining room and outdoor patio. Biscayne bay breezes, marina sails and palms dotting the coastline are the backdrop, while the front lawn opens up to a thicket of neighborhood streets and homes set within a densely layered colorful tropical canopy. A winding pathway entrance is embraced by foliage drawing guests in. Textured fabrics and natural materials in the design develop the relaxed feeling of the outside environment in the dining room, and the open kitchen with hearth and charcoal grill conjures a welcoming feeling.

Always working.

The restaurant opens in mid-May and will offer breakfast bakery items from its walk-up café with seating at tables in the park, lunch, dinner and brunch. Valet parking will be available in addition to metered street and nearby garage. Look for reservations to open in early May. Walk-ins always welcome. Menus coming soon!

First Look at Michael Schwartz’s Park Grove Restaurant, Catered by Michael Schwartz Events

Our first look at the Meyer Davis Studio interiors of Michael’s 2018 restaurant at Related and Terra Group’s Park Grove, and we already feel right at home. Welcome to the ultimate neighborhood restaurant ensconced in a lush front yard park at the corner of Tigertail Avenue and Mary Street in the heart of residential Coconut Grove, Miami.  Brought to life in a garden enclave with indoor and outdoor seating on the grounds of the park, our signature restaurant, like every element on property, draws in the outdoors, reflecting the area’s historical significance and emphasizing the refined Bohemian village lifestyle that informs every aspect of Park Grove.  The rustic dining room features an open-air concept allowing guests a clear view into the kitchen with freshly-made food front and center. This familiar design element is iconic to Michael’s projects and cultivates energy in the dining room, fostering a feeling of warm hospitality and sense of place for residents and visitors alike to feel welcome.

Miami’s original neighborhood of Coconut Grove was founded in 1873 by an eclectic mix of pioneers, artists, intellectuals and adventurers.  Its tropical oasis thrives to this day as Miami’s escape from the stress of city life. Located in the middle of Miami, yet completely separate and quaint, it offers a warm, laid-back atmosphere of charming boutiques, sidewalk cafes and sailboats anchored at the bay. The neighborhood’s distinct bohemian flair allows one to unwind and relax every day of the week and any time of the year, and the restaurant’s location at the corner of Tigertail and Mary Street in the heart of the marina-side village will make it a vibrant addition to Coconut Grove’s dining scene. Daily care and attention to the quality of local sources will be expressed in a menu true to sense of place, the seasons, and proximity to Biscayne Bay, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a take away counter.

Last week, in another property milestone, Park Grove’s development team celebrated the top-off of Two Park Grove and the Club Residences with Will Meyer, co-founder of New York-based Meyer Davis Studio and Chef, who together unveiled the design concept for the development’s restaurant over bites catered by Michael Schwartz Events.  We look forward to following its continued progress!

The Ultimate Neighborhood Restaurant, Parked in the Grove

Today we have some great news to share.  Michael is partnering with The Related Group and Terra Group to design a restaurant at Park Grove, the highly anticipated residential enclave steps from Biscayne Bay in the heart of Coconut Grove.  The team assembled for this project is world class, and we are very energized to be a part of it!  The 3,500-square-foot restaurant, designed by the globally recognized boutique design firm Meyer Davis, will sit at the intersection of Tigertail Avenue and Mary Street, facing Coconut Grove’s lush residential community.   The idea is to combine the elegance and sophistication of The Cypress Room in a more casual neighborhood environment.

“It’s a really exciting time for Coconut Grove, and we feel lucky to be a part of what’s happening as we open Harry’s Pizzeria and look to the future with Park Grove,” Michael says. “With everything coming up so fast around us, the stakes are super high to make sure to deliver a place our neighbors new and old can grow with, frequent and make their own.  The vision is for the space to open into a cozy courtyard that will become Coconut Grove’s own secret garden.”

Inspired by the exceptional natural scenery at his street-level doorstep, Michael is looking to draw the outside in and reflect the Grove’s historic significance to South Florida and unique, village lifestyle.  An additional 1,000-square feet on-premise for private events will service the occasion needs of year-round locals and visitors alike. This is our third collaboration with Related, including culinary outposts at SLS Hotel & Residences in Brickell (opening summer 2016) and Paraiso Bay Restaurant & Beach Club in Edgewater (opening 2017).

Michael will be the exclusive in-house service provider for the restaurant, catering, pool and bar service on property, which comes with many perks for Park Grove residents. Amenities will include special seasonal menus, catering through concierge services for boat owners with vessels docked at Grove marinas, boxed lunches to go for families and kids, and exclusive access to a restaurant preview pop-up event by Regatta Park.

The concept is fashioned around Park Grove’s award-winning, curated lifestyle—a collaboration born through two of Miami’s most established developers, The Related Group and Terra Group—with architecture by OMA/Rem Koolhaas, interiors by Meyer Davis, kitchens and baths by William Sofield, a two-acre sculpture park by Enea Landscape Architecture and lifestyle curator Colin Cowie.
